Strengthening cardiometabolic disease prevention and care capacity by improving the quality of Nursing Education
Nursing for the Future is an international partnership project that brings together institutions in India, Kenya, and Denmark to collaboratively strengthen nursing education. Through four themes listed below, the project aims to support the development of relevant competencies and share innovative educational resources.
-
Cardiometabolic disease (CMD)
The purpose of this theme is to strengthen the quality of nursing education in CMD prevention and care by:
- Enhancing access to quality nursing education on CMDs in Kenya, India, and Denmark.
- Co-developing evidence-based learning activities and learning resources to be implemented in the nursing education.
The aim is to improve access to high-quality nursing education on CMDs in partner countries. In collaboration with partners from India, Kenya, and Denmark, we co-develop courses with partners on CMD prevention, management, treatment, comorbidities, and patient education. The collaboration is organised in working groups, where we conduct workshops, webinars and training sessions to share teaching methods, insights, and research.

-
Clinical decision-making and clinical leadership
The purpose of this theme is to strengthen nurses' competence in Clinical Decision-Making and Clinical Leadership to support empowerment, person-centred nursing practice, and improved quality of care, particularly in community healthcare settings.
This enables nurses to:
- Develop reflective practice as a foundation for clinical nursing practice and professional judgement.
- Strengthen evidence-informed Clinical Decision-Making by integrating professional knowledge, clinical experience, and person-centred approaches.
- Develop Clinical Leadership by translating clinical decisions into coordinated action, collaboration, and quality improvement.
- Integrate clinical and organisational perspectives (dual competencies) to improve patient care and healthcare quality.
- Strengthen empowerment, professional identity, autonomy, and the capacity to act in everyday nursing practice.
The overall aim is to empower nurses to act confidently and autonomously in complex clinical situations, particularly in relation to cardiometabolic disease prevention and care in underserved communities.

Pedagogy
The purpose of this theme is to expand and improve pedagogical teaching methods. We will strengthen the nursing education by expanding and improving pedagogical approaches—online, blended learning (OBL) and simulation—through targeted competency development for teachers. This includes:
-
To develop and deliver competency development for teachers in the nursing education by employing pedagogical approaches for online blended learning strategies in-class, out-of-class and in simulations.
-
An expansion of the teacher competencies enables them to plan, develop, and execute teaching both in faculty and online education.

-
Participating in networks and partnerships for new knowledge and research in nursing education
-
Establishing exchange programs across countries for students and faculty members in nursing education
