Innovation in Simulation based Nursing Education
The visit to the Practice and Innovation House was part of a four-day symposium hosted by Novo Nordisk Foundation and Copenhagen University under the umbrella of the “Partnership for Education of Health Professionals”. dsr.dk
The PEP-program was launched in 2022 in response to the increase in cardiometabolic and chronic diseases in low and middle-income countries like Kenya, India and East Africa. dsr.dk
In total, Novo Nordisk Fonden has allocated DKK 1 billion to the PEP project, which aims to train and support local health care systems. The University Colleges of Absalon, Copenhagen and VIA together have secured DKK 38 million for the project “Strengthening CMD prevention and care capacity by improving the quality of nursing education” — a collaboration between nursing programmes at the three university colleges and educators from several nursing institutions in India and Kenya. dsr.dk+1
PhD nurse Lene Munch from Absalon leading the project on behalf of the three schools — explains:
“In these countries there has previously been much focus on infectious diseases — the local health systems are not really equipped for the rising number of patients with cardiometabolic and chronic diseases. Novo Nordisk Foundation wants, overall, to strengthen health professionals’ knowledge in this area so that it can benefit the local population.” dsr.dk
She adds:
“In our project we focus, of course, on nursing — thinking holistically and educationally about care for cardiometabolic illnesses — and we also emphasise clinical leadership and decision-making, which makes real sense for our partners.”
